External drives come partitioned, you simply want to reformat it with an ExFAT partition. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.When you connect the drive to your PC reformat the PC volume to either NTFS or ExFAT."TLDR How to format Seagate external HD using Windows Vista and the 6 steps above?If you simply want to have a data drive that can be shared across Mac and PC just format the drive in ExFAT. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button.
